I say we go for a population degrowth! AI and automation means fewer hands are needed to make Britain work.
We needed many hands to make light work in our mills and factories, now we have robotics and computerization to procure our needs and wants.
Many countries are thriving with fewer people – Sweden, Norway and Finland to name a few.
We have a population ponzi scheme where we bring in more people which eventually leads to more people needed to take care of the people’s we previously brought in.
Imagine our country heavily forested with clean air, free flowing traffic with plentiful affordable housing and classrooms with a small cosy amount of students in each. Lower waiting times at the doctor’s and dentists. Our lives would be happier and richer.
Imagine if we didn’t need to dilute our culture and identity and lay waste to our green and pleasant land for the sake of economic progress.
